What's In An Essential Oil?

Almost all natural skincare products use extracts or essential oils. But, have you ever wondered what exactly goes into the extract or essential oil in your skincare?

What most customers don’t realise is that, other than the herb or flower essence contained in that ingredient, most extracts and some essential oils also contain added preservatives. And guess what? Skincare manufacturers who use them don’t have to declare those preservatives in the ingredients listing :(

It’s a well known secret in the skincare industry and one reason why some manufacturers add lots of extracts and essential oils to their product as it then removes the need to add (and therefore declare) preservatives, natural or otherwise.

At Four Cow Farm, we use only certified organic essential oils and extracts, or we infuse the herbs and flowers ourselves (such as for our Calendula and Gotu Kola range products, for example) and all our extracts are suitable for use in food, ie food-grade quality. Where they do contain a preservative, it’s declared clearly on our ingredients listing and they are only ever natural or naturally derived, so our customers always know exactly what they’re buying.

That's our promise; to handcraft the safest, all-natural skincare available.
